Mast Head Development

As I haven't decided on a name I have decided to play around with different fonts and using different techniques such as kerning and leading. I also played around with colours and using two different colours in the masthead.



With this Font I have made the first letter of my mast head bold and it is filled this makes the font stand out and the main focus is drawn to the star of the word. I used larger spaces between the letters so it filled the top from left too right. The colours and the simplicity of the fonts are modern and connotes a sense of young and fresh. I don't feel like the mast head is suitable for my magazine because it doesn't convey a warm and exciting feeling that I am trying to connote.

Using the same fonts I have decided to fill in all of the other letters with a darker blue however this doesn't work as you are distracted by the darker colours. Also this makes the front cover cold.

With this font I have played around with using different colours. The red contrasts against the blue and creates a warm feeling I like the way the colours contrast however I don't like the way the letters aren't filled in. I have moved the letters closer together so they are not overlapping this made the masthead bold this also made it looked modern.

For my front cover I would like to take a naturalistic photo. I want it to have a shallow depth of field so the audience aren't distracted by the busyness of the background. I am going to take it on a street and have the model cropped from the waste up. I would like the photo to be taken in black on white so the photo becomes edgy and fits my genre. I have looked at what photos are used in magazines of my genre and came across one of 'cara delevigne' this is made in black and white and has a high contrast.

For my contents page I am going to take these photos the same time as my front cover however I will use more models and happier a lighter atmosphere and in colour. For the double page spread I will take a photo of my Mathilde who is an young singer and the article will feature her and what's she's like so the picture will capture her bold personality. I would like the photo to be in a country background focusing in on her. I would like to have a full body shot. 
The models I use will be wearing high street bands and high street clothes. As my magazine targets an audience with a lower income the clothes need to be seen as affordable for them as they can relate to the audience style. I want the clothes to be trendy at the present time.


Who?
My first model will be Kate Reynolds. She follows all the mainstream music and follows the trends of the seasons. She will be good as my contents page photos as she has a great smile and connote energy and excitement to my magazine

I would also like to use Mathilde Willepotte. Mathilde has so much energy which i would like to show in my photography. She can really show her character through the faces she can make and this will make my double page spread exciting. She is also the age of my target audience which will work well as the audience will be able to connect to her. Mathilde is into indie music which is the same genre of my magazine, she shows this through the clothes she wears. 

Ruby Young could be a potential model as she has a big character shown through her fashion sense. I like her style and the genre of music she enjoys is indie rock music. I think her style would appeal to my target market and she has a big personality which can reflect in the double page spread. 

My final model will be Lydia Jackson she has a performance background; she works as an actor and singer and enjoys indie rock music. She would be good to capture her on stage and put photos of her on my contents page.

On billboard magazine they used a variation of font sizes and colours and style within their cover lines. They were contained within a box and this made them formal.
